The 1980s were a decade of cultural and technological reinvention and evolution — just think of video consoles and home computers such as the Apple II, the Commodore C64 and Amiga, and Atari ST, of the Walkman and Ghetto Blasters, of Rubik’s Cube, of movie franchises such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Back To The Future, or of TV series such as The A-Team, Knight Rider, Alf, Sledge Hammer, Miami Vice, and Married… With Children for example.
At the same time, people feared that World War III could break out overnight, while the entire Cold War conflict ended in 1989 with the fall of the Berlin Wall.
